Last Thursday, I went to Bomboti in Polanco for the opening of the “CARNAVAL” exhibition by 1/8 Takamura. Bomboti is an amazing hotspot where you can find art, design, and fashion, all from Mexican designers.
I also had the opportunity to watch the fashion film by Julio Muñoz about “CARNAVAL,” the first runway show SS 2026 by 1/8 Takamura (Guillermo Vargas Ayluardo), featuring Mexican fashion designer Guillermo Jester, who was deeply involved in the project.
About CARNAVAL…
“For 1/8 Takamura, Carnaval is a celebration of rebirth through joy. Before dawn, we are more night than ever; we are an open fall, unafraid of rising again.
For this collection, we revisited beautiful elements and garments that inspire us, emotions we identify with, and images that illustrate an imaginary world seemingly inhabited by ancestral beings, dwellers of the future, and magical beasts contained within a postcard that might have been photographed by Graciela Iturbide.
We continue weaving the present with the future. As the day comes to an end, we make space for transmutation: it is not death, but rather a symbol of passage. The body, traversed by ritual, becomes the beginning of the hidden, the inner, the spiritual.“
