Yesterday I had the best time at the atelier of Mexican fashion designer Carmen Rión who presented her newest collection “Las Hijas del Maíz: Una Nueva Cosecha”. (The Daughters of the Corn)

In this photo, Mexican designer Carmen Rión is pictured with the inspiration mood board for her new collection, The Daughters of the Corn. The mood board is shared with the Indigenous artisan community SNA Maruch, based in Zinacantán, Magdalena, and Chamula, Chiapas, who use it as a starting point for their creative process. Rather than replicating the designs, the artisans interpret the inspiration through their own artistic language, resulting in extraordinary, one-of-a-kind embroidered pieces.

The evening was truly unforgettable. I had the pleasure of sharing it with fellow fashion journalists and my dear Anna Fusoni, as she and Carmen Rión guided us through a selection of pieces from Carmen’s design archive. It was a rare opportunity to gain insight into the creative vision, research, and craftsmanship that have shaped her remarkable body of work.
