INVERSO runway by BERNARDA / Paola Hinojos mexican fashion designer

A few days ago I was invited to attend the “Inverso” runway show by mexican fashion brand BERNARDA, that took place in the emblematic “Teatro de los Insurgentes” in Mexico City. Two months ago I had the opportunity to meet designer Paola Hinojos, who is behind BERNARDA in person, and it was a very nice experience getting to know her and getting to know more about this amazing collection named “INVERSO”, we discussed about mental health and how she pictured the runway to be featured in Mexico in a theatre. The thing about mental health is that sometimes talking about it in society may seem like a big taboo, and I loved how this collection “INVERSO” talks about it, and it gets so loud! The opening and ending contained so much catharsis. Beginning and closing with the song Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones, it literally blew my mind.

“People don’t fake having anxiety, sadness, or depression; people fake being okay.” – Paola Hinojos

Quoting ” INVERSO It is a tribute by designer Paola Hinojos, born out of love and respect for her mother. The proposal focuses on taking action through the lens of fashion, raising awareness about depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia by incorporating contrasting elements into the garments. The aim is to represent mental health disorders and express them through pieces that challenge conventional norms. Promoting mental health and combating stigma is a responsibility we all share.”

Leather, denim, cashmere, and knit fabrics were used, all of which evoke emotions and create atmospheres that reflect issues of perception, compulsivity, depression, and obsession.
